Looks like they have an end-of-week assembly anyway, and if anybody has a birthday it gets special treatment.
I got there just as they were being lined up to go back in from the playground. Jack broke ranks to grab me, so we then _both_ rejoined the Reception class line at the end. Much laughter from several children... And then Year2 got back from their day out, with henna tattoos on their hands.
So the entire school trooped up to the 1st floor classroom, and J and a lad from Year1 were at a table at the front with a cake each complete with candles. A song was sung, candles were lit and blown out.
Then the StarOfTheWeek, HealthyLunchbox, etc stuff was sorted, and this week Inchfield are the winning house. J cheered but I thought heapos;d told me last week he was in Hollins...
I asked Mrs Parkinson who made Japos;s cake, since as it was *perfect*, unlike mine, I was going to try to get the recipe. But apparently J made it himself... Tsk
Then everybody went back to their own classrooms, collecting coats etc on the way, and I put the miniDairyMilks into the custody of the TA who guards the exit door, calling the kids when sheapos;s spotted their parent (or other collector).
And so we came home - via the shop, obv, it being Friday.

this is got to be the best slap-down in all of presidental debate history. I have a special fondness for the 1988 election, I was living with my Grandmother and it was the first time I was aware of an election really going on. I was the only one in my class at school who "voted" for Dukakis, and I did for the same reason my classmates voted for Bush, becouse that was who their parents were voting for. I also remeber that my Grandmother, who hated driving, took me to the polls after it was dark out, in the rain, becouse voting was so important. It made a big impression on me.

so for my Grandmother who was born before women could vote, I promise to always vote and to always be paying attention.
